5.      The site for the preschool is located in First Lutheran Church at 912 Lake Avenue, Detroit Lakes.  Parents can telephone us 847-5656 when needed.

6.      At the time of enrollment and to secure your child’s spot, the preschool must have the following information: (Please check off)

A.       _____Admission form completely filled out (two sides)

B.       _____$50.00 registration fee

C.       _____Immunization form (need parent signature on section A)

D.      _____Health History Form  (within 30 days after school begins)

7.      The tuition fee is $135.00 a month for the three day session and $85.00 a month for the two day session.  Fees are to be paid at the beginning of each month.  Kidsfirst recommends using the Simply Giving electronic funds transfer program to make tuition payments.

8.      Parents must provide transportation to and from school.  The preschool door will open 10 minutes before each class time.  Please respect the teacher’s prep time.  If you need to arrive earlier than 10 minutes before class starts, please visit with a teacher about arrangements.  You will be granted 10 minutes past the time of class ending to pick up your child.  Persons later than 10 minutes will be charged at a rate of $5.00 per minute after that.  It is recommended that you check your watches/clocks to make sure that they coincide with the classroom clock.  Please escort your child into the classroom during drop-off time!!

9.      Parking is available in the church parking lot.  There may be times that there will be limited parking spots so please allow the extra time for you and your child to walk a little if need be.  In the event of a funeral and always on Friday afternoons, parents may drive up as close to the building as possible and preschool staff will escort children to their parents.  The church closes at 1:00 pm on Fridays so the outside doors get locked for our safety.  If parents should need to pick their child up early on Friday afternoons, please let the teachers know so that we can let you in!

10.  When it is pick-up time, children will be instructed to stay in the classroom until parents come in and get them.  This is for safety reasons so that the teachers know that everyone has been picked up by authorized persons.  When all children have their coats on and backpacks with them, the teachers will open the classroom door and parents may then come in.  Please keep children safely in hand in the parking lot.  At all times a child must be in the company of his/her parent or a staff person.  If using the electric doors, please press the button only once.  Always secure children in age-appropriate child safety restraints.

11.  Each child will have their own cubby where they may hang their coat and backpack.  Your child’s name and picture will be attached inside the cubby for easy locating.  Some children will share a cubby as there are only 10 cubbies.  If you find that your child’s cubby is too crowded, please feel free to use the hooks that are in the church entryway.

12.  The class sessions will be color-coded as follows:

                     MWF morning:   Blue class

                     MWF afternoon:  Green class

                     TTH morning:  Red class

                     TTH afternoon:  Yellow class

We will use these color codes a lot for labeling, communicating, sorting, etc. so get to know which color your child’s class is!

13.  Please limit the amount of personal belongings brought to school.  Some items to bring are an extra change of clothing and a bag or back pack.  Your child will need a two-pocket folder to keep at school for their journal.   Please do not allow your child to bring toys to school.

14.  Shoes must be worn at school at all times.

15.   Parents will be asked to provide a healthy snack for the group on a rotating basis.  Drinks need to be milk or 100% juice as per USDA guidelines.  Cupcakes or cake is allowed on the child’s birthday snack day.  Summer birthdays are scheduled as close to the child’s ½ birthday as possible.

16.  The classroom is cleaned daily by Goldstar Cleaning.

17.   In the event your child misses a session (illness or vacation) no refunds will be granted, however the session may be made up by attending a different session.

17.   Parents will be informed via e-mail of child’s weekly activities.  Things will most likely be loud and active during drop off/pick up times so if you need to talk to the teachers and can’t at that time, there are index cards and a pen on the parent bulletin board for note writing.  Parents may also call before or after school at 847-5656 or e-mail to bethg@firstlutheranchurch.com.  Parent/teacher conferences will be offered in the fall and in the spring.  A written progress report for each child will be prepared before spring.

18.  There is a parent bulletin board on the wall to your immediate right as you enter the classroom.  There you will find information posted for you.  Any other pertinent information will be in writing and put in each child’s cubby for parents to take home and read.

19.  Preschool staff encourages parents to limit the amount of media exposure in the household.  Please watch ratings for video/computer games to be rated E or EC and for movies to be rated G or PG (PG-13 movies are not appropriate for preschool aged children!).

20.   Illness and emergency care:

Children attending preschool must arrive well.  If your child shows symptoms of an illness such as a cold (especially if they are in the first three days of one), runny nose, fever of over 101, coughing, sore eyes (and/or discharge), sore throat, earache, flushed appearance, rash or upset stomach/diarrhea within the last 24 hours, parents must keep them home.  Giving them Tylenol or other over the counter meds and sending them to school is not acceptable.  Allow their immune system time to fight back!!

A.       In the event your child becomes ill at school, you will be notified by phone and asked to come for your child.  The child will lie down on a mat and blanket provided, away from others, but under direct supervision of staff.

B.       In the event of a contagious illness, all parents will be notified by a posted sign and/or via e-mail.  Parents must notify the preschool if their child should contract a contagious disease.  Clearance from the child’s physician that they are no longer infectious is required before they return to school

C.       Please do not bring your child to school when she/he is ill.  Children will not be allowed to stay if we suspect they are ill.

D.       The school will provide first aid as needed.  Staff is trained in CPR and First Aid.  If there is an emergency situation or if an injury occurs requiring medical attention, EMS will be called.

Our program receives health consultation services from Registered Nurse Carol             Lambrecht.

         21.   All staff with direct contact with children are required by the state of                                           Minnesota to pass a background studies check, be certified in First Aid and                                 be certified in CPR.

          22.   Preschool staff are mandated by law to report suspected physical abuse, sexual             abuse or neglect of children in the home, school, and community setting.  If                    the director or teachers suspects abuse or neglect either at home or in the                             center, they will call the Department of Human Services, Licensing Division’s                 Maltreatment Intake line at 651-297-4123.  If the child is in imminent danger,           they will immediately call 9-1-1.

         23.  When the Detroit Lakes schools close due to weather conditions, the                                         preschool will also close.  If DL schools are delayed in the morning, there                        will be no morning preschool session.  If DL announces that they will close                    at 12:00 or 1:00 then there will be no afternoon preschool session.

          24.  If the preschool plans to take a field trip, we will secure written permission                      from parents prior to each trip.  Parents will be asked to sign a walking field                     trip form at the beginning of the year.

          25.  Our designated outside play area is the corrider between the sanctuary and the                           education wing of the church facing Lake Avenue.

          26.  We participate in the We Care program at Central Market where 1% of all                    receipts comes back to us.  We have been able to purchase equipment with                         this extra money so save your receipts!

          27.  We give out scholastic book orders monthly for parents to purchase books if                              they wish.  For each book purchased, the preschool gains points for free                             books and other classroom materials.

          28.  Parents may review Kidsfirst preschool program plan on file in the church                      office upon request.  Parents of children enrolled may visit the preschool any                   time during school hours.

          29.  The preschool is covered by General Liability Coverage.

          30.  No otherwise eligible child shall be excluded from admission on the basis of                    race, sex, creed, color, national origin, or source of payment.  (Scholarships                         may be available).
